Bedourie is located 1600 km west of Brisbane and 200 north of Birdsville, about 220 south of Boulia and has a population of approximately 150.
The Diamantina Shire Council offices and administrative centre for the Shire is located in Bedourie having moved from Birdsville back in 1953.

Bedourie is also home of the famous camp oven, a lightweight metal dish with matching lid that can also be used for a pan. The Bedourie camp oven was invented by drover camps over the years.
The local racetrack comes alive three times a year, a gymkhana (last weekend in June) a camel race (second weekend in July and the famous Bedourie Race Meeting (second week in September).
